요한계시록 4-15장 말씀 묵상

A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths. The power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails were like snakes, having heads with which they inflict injury. The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood-idols that cannot see or hear or walk. Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts. (요한계시록 9장 18-21절)

요한계시록은 참 묵상하기가 쉽지 않은 성경이다. 앞의 묵상 글에서도 썼듯이... 6, 7, 10, 12라는 숫자가 유대인들에게 어떤 의미를 갖는지를 알아야만 하고, 그 외에도 어느 정도 이상 유대문화에 깊이 있는 이해가 있어야 해석과 이해가 가능하기 때문이다. 

이 부분은 그 중에 몇 안되는 현실과 연결되어 상상, 이해가 되는 부분 같다. 불에 타 죽는 사람들을 보면서도 회개하지 않는, 하나님을 보지 못하고 물질에 구속되어 있는 삶을 사는 사람들. 복음을 들어도 이해하지 못하는 사람들. 회개할 줄 모르는 사람들. 오늘날, 현대사회에서 너무나 많이 보이는 모습이어서 많은 생각을 하게 된다. 

Men worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, 'Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?'...All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast-all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world. (요한계시록 13장 4, 8 )

사람들은 이 땅에서 눈에 보이는 권세, 물질, 자신이 경험적으로 알고 세상이 좋다고 하는 것에, 그것을 지배하는 것을 숭배하며 살아간다. 그게 전부일까. 전부라면 사람들은 왜 마약에 빠지는 것일까? 특히 모든 것을 다 이룬 것 같은 사람들 중에 마약이나 더 자극적인 자극을 찾아다니는 사람들이 많은 건 왜일까? 

생각해 볼 필요가 있다.
